Week 9 Depth Chart: Notes and Observations

Week 9 Depth Chart: Notes and Observations

Florida’s latest depth chart was released Wednesday afternoon after practice ended, and Swamp247 has compiled a list of notes and observations from the depth chart release of what emerges from UF’s depth chart.

– Florida starting right guard O’Cyrus Torrence will return to the field on Saturday after missing Florida’s previous contest with a knee injury. Torrence attempted to play against LSU by participating in warm-ups, but ultimately he was unable to compete. Earlier Wednesday, Florida head coach Billy Napier hinted that Torrence would make an imminent return to the field for the Gators. He also inferred that Florida wouldn’t make any significant changes to the depth chart outside of Torrence’s return. “OOutside of maybe getting O’Cyrus back, you know, I think for the most part we’ll be business as usual there,” Napier said on the SEC conference call. “Certainly the rotations may change depending on the last two weeks, compared to what we have observed, but we have a lot of positions where we rotate players. Who starts the game and the ratio, whether it’s 2v1, 3v1, a lot will be decided as the game approaches.

– Regarding the defense of Florida, there is no change in the starting unit. It was believed the Gators would change the depth chart after the bye week, but Wednesday’s posting showed no significant changes to the depth chart.

Jack Miller III is listed as the third-string quarterback after failing to dress up for UF’s 45-35 loss to LSU. Miller suffered an avulsion fracture from his thumb to his throwing hand during preseason camp that required surgery, which caused him to miss the first seven weeks of the season.

–Florida wide receiver Thai Chiaokhiao-Bowman is listed as the second-string wide receiver along with Trent Whittemore on UF’s latest depth chart. Bowman has appeared in all seven games for Florida this season since moving from Independence CC in the offseason. He recorded his first collegiate reception in Florida’s 38-33 loss to Tennessee.

–With Chiaokhiao-Bowman, Florida’s freshman wide receiver is listed as the second-string wide receiver with Ja’Quavion Fraziars on Florida’s depth chart. Douglas has made two appearances for the Gators this season.

–After Josh Braun left the program during the bye week, the Gators named second-year guard Richie Leonard IV as a backup on both left and right. Leonard started his first game of the season in UF’s loss to LSU.

— UF JACK linebacker Lloyd Summerall III is listed as “doubtful” on Florida’s depth chart with an upper-body injury. Despite his injury designation, Summerall is listed as third-string linebacker JACK on the depth chart. In UF’s 45-35 loss to LSU, Summerall saw the field for the seventh straight fight and assisted in a tackle against the Tigers.

– Florida linebacker Diwun Black is listed as “out” for Florida’s contest with Georgia with a lower-body injury. Black missed Florida’s previous contest, UF’s loss to LSU, due to illness.

– Florida cornerback Devin Moore will miss his third straight contest due to an upper body injury. Moore was a late scratch for UF’s 24-17 victory over Missouri, and he missed the following game against LSU.

– Florida tight end Nick Elksnis is listed as “on the depth chart with an upper body injury. Elksnis’ injury has not been disclosed.

– Florida tight end Arlis Boardingham is listed as “out” on the depth chart with an upper body injury. Boardingham has been injured since pre-season camp.
