These Pixel Fold renders are almost as sensational as the phone’s supposed launch price

The long-awaited Google foldable could arrive alongside the Pixel tablet

There’s never been a more exciting time to be a fan of Google’s Pixel devices, as we’re right in the middle of the brand’s big expansion into new product categories. We just got our hands on the new Pixel Watch, and there’s even more to look forward to in 2023, with the dockable Pixel tablet on the horizon. But perhaps the most anticipated new Pixel is the long-talked about folding screen model: what we call the Pixel Fold. In a new report, Jon Prosser shares some absolutely stunning renders of the upcoming phone, while giving us a hint as to what its release might look like.

The renders themselves are simply stunning. With a look strongly reminiscent of the Pixel 7, we see a foldable design that feels incredibly thin, with no unsightly gaps when closed. The exterior display, with what we’re told will be a 9.5MP punch-hole selfie camera, looks well sized for performing quick tasks, and the whole package here is polished with a chrome finish.

Inside, we get a bit of a bezel shock seeing those chunky bezels framing the phone’s folding display. At least that means there’s no cutout for the second selfie camera (another 9.5MP component), and instead Google can hide it in the bezel near the top right edge.

On the back, the cameras themselves look a lot like the Pixel 7 Pro, but the whole thing is now a raised island, rather than the bar we have on this model. Prosser seems to really like this direction, although tastes vary. As for the build of the foldable, he notes that it feels well made and is surprisingly heavy.

An interesting direction for this hardware could see Google opting for a fingerprint scanner built into the phone’s power button. That’s far from unusual with foldables, but it would be another first for Google.

Prosser’s leak record might be a little mixed, but as he notes here, he nailed the Pixel Watch, long before Google confirmed the hardware. The renders you see here were created by him, but based on images he has seen and information provided to him by industry sources. That might not make them hard evidence of Google’s plans, but we wouldn’t be surprised if he’s at least onto some of the good ideas here.

So when can you expect to get your hands on the Pixel Fold? Supposedly, Google is looking to release the phone in May 2023, alongside the Pixel tablet. Unfortunately, while we’ve already heard that prices could be at the lower end of the foldable market (admittedly steep), Prosser’s sources believe Google will sell the Fold for $1,800.

While that’s going to be hard to swallow if this turns out to be true (especially if you’re also planning on buying a Pixel tablet at the same time), we imagine Google will have no problem finding people lining up to throw a take a look at its very first foldable, even at this price.
