WGAL. NEWS 8. HARD AS IT IS TO ACCEPT THE RESULTS, THERE IS NO WAY BUT TO CONCED HERE. REPUBLICAN DOUG MASTRIANO CONCEDED IN THE RACE FOR PENNSYLVANIA GOVERNOR. IT COMES MORE THAN FIVE DAYS AFTER ELECTION DAY WHEN DEMOCRAT JOSH SHAPIRO WAS PROJECTED AS THE WINNER. MASTRIANO MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT ON HIS SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS, AND HERE’S WHAT HE HAD TO SAY ON FACEBOOK LIVE EARLIER TODAY. JOSH SHAPIRO WILL BE OUR NEXT GOVERNOR. AND I ASKED EVERYONE TO GIVE HIM THE OPPORTUNITY AND PRAY THAT HE MAKES THE DECISIONS THAT ARE BENEFICIAL FOR THE STATE AND NOT NECESSARILY FOR HIS PARTY. At 5:47 p.m. Sunday, Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano conceded with a Facebook Live as well as a letter on Twitter. Mastriano lost the race to Democratic challenger Josh Shapiro, 42% to 56%. Mastriano conceded to Shapiro while thanking those who came out and voted for him in Tuesday’s election. “In all, we received votes from over 2.2 million Pennsylvanians, and I thank each and every one of you, from the bottom of my heart, for your support,” Mastriano said. While in his letter, Mastriano also called for electoral reform in Pennsylvania. “Pennsylvania badly needs electoral reform. As I write this, final results for the 2022 midterm elections are still not available. We can and must do better to make our elections more transparent, safe, and decided faster,” Mastriano wrote. Mastriano continued, “Pennsylvanians deserve to have confidence in our elections. In my role as a state senator, I will do my best to help Josh Shapiro deliver that to Pennsylvanians, and if he does, I will be the first to recognize and applaud his achievement.
