The Seattle Seahawks are defying the odds with Geno Smith this season and Pete Carroll may have taken the opportunity to fire a veiled shot at former quarterback Russell Wilson this week while paying a compliment to his new quarterback.
Fresh off a four-fight winning streak, Carroll praised the working relationship between Smith and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and the confidence the two have built on the pitch, especially during critical plays.
“He gets everything he can get from Shane,” Carroll said on Radio am KIRO. “It’s a very important part. Shane helps him out until the 15-second point. They communicate just to do it and there’s this conversation going on, so they work it out, and Geno takes advantage of it all. that.”

Carroll went on to explain in more detail, noting that Smith wears a bracelet to help make play call decisions – something that has met with “resistance” in the past.
“If you notice Geno leaving the bracelet and that’s a big help. It made things easier, sped things up, cleaned things up. And that’s part of it too. We’ve never done that before. He there was resistance to that, so we weren’t doing that before.”

He continued: “When Shane says something to Geno, he doesn’t doubt it. He just goes with it, so there’s a real immediate flow and it speeds up the whole process. … He works very comfortably regardless of the circumstances. .”
It’s unclear if the ‘resistance’ came from the longtime quarterback Russell Wilsonbut that wouldn’t be a stretch given the rumored tension that was reported in the months leading up to the massive trade with the Denver Broncos.
Wilson spoke publicly of his frustrations. In February 2021, he spoke openly about “getting hit too much,” which the Seahawks apparently weren’t happy about.

The eventual rift has put both the organization and Wilson under the microscope this season, with the latter seemingly struggling in a new environment. The Broncos narrowly beat the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday to improve to 3-5.
But Carroll seems happy with Seattle’s current situation.
“Geno is fully functioning – he is fully functioning right now.”
