I’m someone who wants to save a dollar. However, I firmly believe that certain elements are worth splurging on. I recently wrote a post about it in which I shared things that members of the Reddit community prefer to spend money on – and many of you added to the conversation in the comments of This article.
It goes without saying that being able to spend extra money on purchases like these is *not* a given – but rather a luxury and a privilege. If it’s available to you, here are some items that people think are worth spending the extra bucks.
1.
“Quality winter outerwear. I have found that there is a huge difference between cheap ski wear and big name brands. I’m not even talking about the more expensive brands. With my clothes branded winter boots – like North Face or Columbia – I can sit outside in a -2 degree blizzard and be perfectly comfortable.Try that with a Walmart or Target special, you’d be freezing and miserable.
2.
“Razors. I’ve always used branded razors to shave, but ended up buying the generic refills when I didn’t have enough for the brand. Worst mistake ever. It ended up leaving more cuts on my legs, and I had to go over the shaved areas a few times otherwise it would leave hairs, also I would have to replace them more often as they faded faster.

“Dawn Dish Soap. And it’s good for EVERYTHING!!! I use it to treat stains – especially greasy ones – on my clothes, and I can count on one hand the times it does. doesn’t work, even on dried stains that I didn’t catch the first time.”
4.
“Inferior cuts for cooking beef as a steak simply don’t work well. Round steak, for example, has a meaty texture and regrets. So it’s not worth it. You might as well well eat steak less often.”

5.
“Holidays. I used to take short 3 day trips and eat cheap when I got there – but there just isn’t enough time to relax and enjoy the weather, this which is kind of the point of a vacation. So now I’m saving up, maybe wait a year or two and go on vacation and splurge. Like, spend two to three weeks in Japan and experience life like a local .
6.
“For food: soy sauce, vanilla and cinnamon. The first time I tried really good soy sauce was amazing. There’s no going back to regular soy sauce afterwards. The last two only matter for people who cook a lot, but they make all the difference.”

“Good underwear is a game-changer! Even if you don’t show it, you feel more confident wearing a flattering, well-fitting pair. Plus, you never know when you’ll get lucky or when you’ll need an EMT to cut your clothes in the middle of the street.”
8.
“One thing I refuse to change is the laundry detergent. It has to be Ariel. But it’s more because everyone in the house has eczema or psoriasis, and the few times I Tried other brands, the itch drove us crazy. It’s just not worth the risk.”

“Lotion. I have eczema, so spending more on better quality products makes all the difference!”

“A portable charger. Let me tell you, I will never go back to those cheap lipstick-sized chargers. I just bought myself a Mophie charger from Apple. I bought one, then Apple sent me another one for free It’s so important to have a charger that works well rather than one that immediately pisses you off I’m blind, and I travel independently sometimes, and often, my phone would die before they got to their destination. Not anymore with that. Just pay the extra money for a good charger.”

“My Shark vacuum that I bought from the infomercial. It was over $400, but it’s worth every penny. The customer service is also fantastic.”

“My glasses. I make sure to invest in an anti-glare and blue light filter. I’m an office auto adjuster, so I stare at screens all the time. I have to invest in my eyes. No eye strain like I used to have or pain.”
13.
“For me, makeup. I have EXTREMELY dry skin, and even though I try to moisturize it well, the cheaper makeup in the store just seemed to flake on my skin. The first time I tried the Dior foundation…it was like BUTTAH!!!! Now I use Fenty because it has the SUPER feel of Dior, but I don’t have to break the bank buying it.”

“Grocery. Unfortunately I have a lot of food issues so eating at home is the best thing for me as much as I hate cooking. So I buy high end stuff. I spend so much on groceries; luckily , none of it goes to waste, and I save on just about everything else The grocery store is the one place I can’t cut corners – try to buy gluten-free pasta instead of regular pasta; the markup is bananas.”
15.
“There aren’t many items, but sometimes services are worth splurging on if you can afford it. In my last apartment, I used a laundromat instead of going to the laundromat automatic every week. It was more expensive, but it saved so much time and energy that I felt the trade-off was worth it.”

“Windex. I bought the store brand recently and used it to clean my bathroom mirror. It was worse than if I had done nothing at all.”
18.
“Natural hair products. Put the Cantu and Shea Moisture down, sisters. Get into TGIN and Melanin, and thank me later!”

“If you’ve ever taken a cheap trash bag break, you know the extra few bucks are worth it.”

“My family always used individually wrapped cheese slices. When I moved on my own, I accidentally picked up a package that was real cheese slices, and the difference in flavor was amazing. Now I keep several kinds of cheese in my fridge, gouda, havarti, provolone and muenster.”

“I recently started buying Bombas socks. And they’re more expensive, but my god, they’re the most comfortable socks I’ve ever worn. My dog ripped a pair and they sent me a new one. pair for free.”
