Mass Effect 5 Teased With Mysterious Piece Of Concept Art On N7 Day

For N7 Day, BioWare teased the next Mass Effect game with a piece of concept art that appears to be of a mass relay being built or rebuilt.

A video of the slightly moving concept art was posted on Twitter along with a short message from BioWare. If you really want to take a closer look, you can also download it in HD.

“Happy #N7Day through the stars! đź’« We found this interesting footage you might want 🔍 a little closer.”

Mike Gamble, the project director for the upcoming Mass Effect game, also shared a few words about the future of the series.

“In the nearly 15 years since the first Mass Effect was released, the main reason we still love working on it is the warmth, dedication and passion of this community,” Gamble wrote. “Some of you have been with us through it all. We grew up together, sacrificed Ashley together, (Editor’s note: or Kaidan, Mike! We all make different choices.) faced hardships together …and laughed until our faces were Tired…together! And for those of you new to Mass Effect (thanks, Legendary Edition!), welcome! I can promise you many years of enjoyment, adventures and characters to fall in love with are yet to come.

“Regardless of when you joined us, across four games and more expansions, I can say with certainty that we’re here because of you, and each N7 Day is a wonderful reminder of that. As we wait with Can’t wait, every week is a fun and exciting challenge for the team. We love bringing this universe to life, and while there’s a lot more we want to share with you, that will have to be for another time.

“Right now, there’s something we want you to look at. We’ve intercepted some strange footage from one of the monitoring stations in known space. It may be nothing, but…” Following the post, the above image was revealed.

Spoilers ahead for the ending of Mass Effect 3.

This image may very well be an indication that the Destroy ending of Mass Effect 3 will be the canon ending going forward. In this ending, Shepard was able to destroy the Reaper threat, but in doing so all of the ground relays – the part of Reaper technology that allowed for easy space travel – were destroyed.

The image could hint that they are being rebuilt with new current technology, as the Reapers would disappear under the Destroy ending. The first teaser for this new Mass Effect game seemed to include Liara, so it would make sense for it to be a continuation of that story, if not a direct sequel.

Another possibility is that humans or another species have figured out how to create their own mass relays. Really, anything is possible!

There is also text accompanying the image, and it says: “Vacuum Relay Construction Record / Monitoring Station Operated by Green Dagger Ltd. Owned by Deepspace Dhow SAV / Ship Captain: Sub-Navarch Soa’Rhal Zhilian-Jones.

If we try to break down the text, we learn that this surveillance station is operated by Green Dagger Ltd., which is a company from the Mass Effect universe that we have yet to meet. We also do not know the name of the ship’s captain.
