Intel Desktop Processor Rumors: Raptor Lake Refresh in 2023, Meteor Lake to Core i7 with 6+16, Arrow Lake to Core i9 with 8+16 SKUs in 2024

New rumors about Intel’s next-generation desktop processor lineup, including Raptor Lake Refresh, Meteor Lake, and Arrow Lake, have been leaked.

Intel readying Raptor Lake Refresh desktop processors for late Q3 2023, Meteor Lake to Core i7 and Arrow Lake to Core i9 in 2024

Again, we have the latest rumors from Enthusiast Citizen talking about at least 3 upcoming Intel Desktop Processor families. These include Intel Raptor Lake Refresh, Meteor Lake, and Arrow Lake. Details can be found below.

13th Generation (2023) Intel Raptor Lake Refresh Desktop Processor Lineup:

Intel won’t be moving away from its 13th Gen Raptor Lake processors for most of 2023. In fact, the company plans to launch a Raptor Lake Refresh family around the second half of 2023, or Q3 to be precise. This family will be based on a slightly optimized 10ESF node, allowing the blue team to extract 100 or 200 MHz more from the chips.

The company will also launch the flagship Core i9-13900KS early next year, but that’s not part of the Raptor Lake Refresh family. A small frequency increase may not be noticeable and will not provide the same kind of gains that AMD offers with its next-gen X3D parts which are expected in the first half of 2023. The 13th-gen Raptor Lake family will be compatible with the Socket Existing Intel LGA 1700/1800.

14th Gen Intel Meteor Lake Desktop Processor Line (2024)

14th Gen Intel Meteor Lake-S desktop processors will step back and reduce the number of P-Cores while retaining the number of E-Cores. The lineup listed in the leaked charts includes five different SKU configurations with the best variants featuring up to 22 cores in a combination of 6 P-Cores and 16 E-Cores. The P-Cores of the Meteor Lake processors are based on the brand new Redwood Cove architecture while the E-Cores will use the Crestmont design. Both of these architectures are new and improved, as Coelacanth-Dream reported a few weeks ago.

The full list of configurations includes:

  • Meteor Lake-S 22 (6P+16E) / 4 Xe cores / 125 W TDP
  • Meteor Lake-S 22 (6P+16E) / 4 Xe cores / 65 W TDP
  • Meteor Lake-S 22 (6P+16E) / 4 Xe cores / 35 W TDP
  • Meteor Lake-S 14 (6P+8E) / 4 Xe cores / 65WTDP
  • Meteor Lake-S 14 (6P+8E) / 4 Xe cores / 35WTDP

In addition to the SKUs, we also learn that all SKUs will feature at least 4 Xe cores for the iGPU and this will offer 64 execution units or 512 ALUs. 15th Gen Intel Arrow Lake Desktop Processor Lineup (2024)

15th Gen Intel Arrow Lake-S desktop processors will bring back the 24 cores we get on Raptor Lake processors today. The top Arrow Lake-S die will utilize up to 24 cores which will be a combination of 8 performance cores and 16 efficiency cores. According to Enthusiast Citizen, the line will only come in Core i7 and Core i9 flavors. The processor will retain the Intel SKU 4 (CPU) + TSMC N3 (GPU) node layout. Node 20A is said to not make its way to the desktop lineup. Here is the full list of SKUs to expect from the range:

The difference with the Arrow Lake-S line is that all configurations feature the top 24-core die and the only difference is the TDP itself. It is likely that SKUs with a lower number of cores will be derived from these matrices. Intel also seems to have kept the 4 Xe cores from the Meteor Lake line, but we expect them to feature an all-new Arc graphics architecture. The 14th Gen Meteor Lake chips are based on a 5nm TSMC GPU architecture, while the 15th Gen Arrow Lake processors will use a 3nm TSMC graphics architecture, as we reported here.

We can’t say for sure if Intel will keep the number of ALUs and EUs as existing Alchemist chips on its future integrated GPUs, but the Arrow Lake-P parts are expected to offer up to 2560 Xe cores, an increase by 5 times compared to the integrated GPU on the desktop parts.

We know from previous reports that Intel is preparing a new socket called “V” that will offer support for at least two generations of desktop processors, the Meteor Lake-S and the Arrow Lake-S. This LGA 1851 socket will have very similar dimensions to the existing LGA 1700/1800 socket, but will offer more pins and additional support for new/enhanced features.

During its recent investor call, Intel said they are making very good progress on their Intel 4 and Intel 3 products. ‘Intel 3 is also expected to enter the early production phase by the end of 2023. Note that these are early graphics and we are still years away from the launch of the Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake processors.
