Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry has been embroiled in a child support battle since 2014. She has two children, Nahla, 13, and Maceo, 7. She is ordered to pay monthly alimony to the fathers of her two children. While the monthly amount of the two orders is astronomical, Berry received a reprieve. A slight relief came when her monthly payment to her ex, Gabriel Aubry, was reduced from $16,000 to $8,000.
The 55-year-old actress and the 44-year-old model started dating in 2006. They welcomed their daughter two years later but separated in 2018. According to E! News, the custody battle got tricky in 2012 after Aubry blocked Berry’s request for the courts to allow her to move to France with Nahla and her fiancé Olivier Martinez.
The initial monthly payment of $16,000 was based on Berry’s 2012 income. E ! News says court documents reported the x-men star income was $4.7 million in the first nine months of 2012. This was a major difference from Aubry’s income of $192,921.
The original ruling also included the actress paying retroactive child support totaling $115,000 and $300,000 for Aubry’s legal fees. The couple received 50-50 joint custody. Berry was also responsible for their daughter’s private school tuition.
Berry reluctantly paid support without a contest for more than eight years until she vented her anger in 2021.
Berry opened up about her battle with child support and what she felt was “extortion.”
It all started with an Instagram post in February 2021 using a graphic that read, “Women owe you nothing.
She captioned the post, “and it’s on Mary had a little lamb.”
Berry responded to followers in the comments section, expressing her feelings about the child support bias.
“I’ve been paying for it for a decade now. I feel like if a woman or a man has to pay much more than reasonable child support to SUPPORT the child, I think that’s wrong! ” she wrote.
She added that parenthood should be an effort by both parents.
“I understand that some parents (male or female) may need help, but I also think that in these modern times, men and women have a responsibility to take care of their children financially and to work hard and do everything possible to do so,” she said. .
She also spoke about her belief that people use child support to supplement income they cannot earn on their own.
“The way many laws are put in place, people are allowed to USE children in order to receive money to live a lifestyle that not only hasn’t earned them, but is far beyond the reasonable needs of the child, and that’s ‘THE WRONG’ and where I see the abuse,” she said.
She shut down the open debate by sympathizing with the men who typically get the small end of the stick through the child support system.
“I can say that I live it every day and I can tell you that it is difficult. I completely understand the feelings of these men who feel like they are taken advantage of by the system,” she said.
Berry’s passion may have influenced the outcome of the 2021 payout review. Just over a month later, his payouts were reduced.
The Blast reported that Berry’s payments had been reduced to $8,000. She is also ordered to pay the balance of the retroactive amount of $85,000.
Berry will also continue to pay for her daughter’s tuition and health insurance.
There has been no review report of Berry’s current child support arrangement with her son’s father, Olivier Martinez.
Berry is currently dating R&B singer Van Hunt.
