Foreigner announces farewell concert tour starting July 2023

The stranger is about to hit the road one last time.

During an appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Monday, Foreigner singer Kelly Hansen announced that the band are planning their farewell tour, which is set to kick off in July 2023.

“Our plan is to travel to all the places we’ve played before, before it’s all over,” Hansen explained. “We can’t do it in a year. We can’t do the whole world in a year, so we’re going to do the United States next year and then the rest of the world in 2024.”

There are many reasons they chose to pull out of touring, with Hansen citing the continued difficulty of hitting high notes and the constant time away from home.

FOREIGNER REVEALS HOW THEIR MUSIC RESONATES FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION

“It’s mixed. It’s important to me personally that we deliver these songs the way they should be, and it gets harder and harder for me every year to sing high tenor songs. I have a high level , and that’s really important. I’d rather quit while we were doing our best,” he said. “For 17 years, and it weighs on you a bit. When COVID arrived, I finally saw four seasons at home for the first time. I can’t wait to spend time with my new wife and my family, it’s going to be awesome. I have a lot of other things that excite me in life.

In a statement released by the band, Hansen expressed how grateful he is to the fans who have supported the band from the start. He says he understands fans will be upset by the news, but he knows the time has come for him and the rest of the band to hang out at home.

The group was formed in 1976 and released their biggest hit in 1984 with “I Want to Know What Love Is”. Their song, “Waiting for a Girl Like You”, reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and stayed there for a record 10 weeks. A total of 14 singles reached the Top 20 of the charts.

Foreigner are one of the best-selling rock bands of all time, releasing nine studio albums, including five multi-platinum ones. The “Records” album, a compilation of the band’s first four albums, has sold over 50 million copies worldwide.

“We’ve been working with the Grammy Foundation for 10 years to have choirs sing. On the farewell tour, we’re going to be doing a new thing where up to five choirs are going to open for us at each show,” Hansen said. “We really want to support the arts in schools. It’s the first thing that stops when budgets go down.”

During “Fox & Friends,” Hansen performed with OneVoice and sang a medley of some of the band’s biggest hits and fan favorites.
