An artificial intelligence tool called DALL-E, stunning in its ability to render text into realistic images, is now available to the public.
OpenAI, the Silicon Valley research lab behind the program, announced on Wednesday that it has removed the waiting list to use the program.
So far, OpenAI has provided the tool to a select group of users including academics, artists, and journalists. The iterative deployment was designed to limit the potential for bad actors to leverage the tool for misinformation and other harmful uses.
Excitement over the invite-only tool had meanwhile inspired a knock-off known as the DALL-E mini, a comparatively limited model that is not affiliated with OpenAI. The copier has since changed its name to Craiyon.
Well, we at NPR wasted no time testing the now public program. Giving our own public radio spin to the art generated, we bring you a sample of works imagined by NPR reporters.
