Aaron Carter’s longtime friend shared what he saw at the late singer’s house the day his body was discovered.
Gary Madatyan and Carter’s recurring fiancée, Melanie Martin, walked through the house after police cleared them, only to discover a grisly scene.
“After removing the body from the house, they only allowed a few people into the house. We just wanted to go in there and see if there was blood or alcohol or anything in the house,” Madatyan told “Entertainment Tonight” on Monday.
“I went to his room. The room was normal,” he continued. “I went to the bathroom where the bathtub was full of water, like a yellowish color.”
Madatyan also told the outlet that he had seen spray cans at Carter’s house, and while he claimed the “Aaron’s Party” crooner had a breath problem, Madatyan added that he had never personally seen Carter do it — until he did it on Instagram.
“As soon as I saw it, me and Melanie, we got a text saying, ‘This is bad. It’s not good.’ We were very worried about him,” he said.
“He looked terrible. He lost so much weight. He wasn’t acting normal. His mind wasn’t there,” Madatyan recalled. “I heard he was on a lot of medicine, not specifically illegal drugs, but he was on a lot of drugs.”
Carter had previously been diagnosed with multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety and manic depression, which, coupled with addiction, may have led to his untimely demise at age 34 on Saturday, Madatyan speculated.
“Personally, I think he was on medication and fell asleep in a bathtub…I think it was a tragic accident, because he loved life. He had so many plans,” he shared. “Even though he had mental issues, an addiction, he loved life.”
Madatyan also claimed that Carter’s custody battle with Martin, with whom he shares one-year-old son Prince, took an emotional toll on the “I Want Candy” singer.
“I think he was fine until this custody case was filed,” Madatyan said. “He was heartbroken that he couldn’t see his child and had many meetings with his lawyers.”
Carter checked into outpatient rehab in September to regain custody of their son after the court ordered Martin to have temporary custody due to issues with domestic violence and drug use.
However, in addition to struggling with addiction and his mental health, Madatyan also claimed that Carter could not manage his finances.
“It was really bad. He couldn’t manage his money. There was no one to manage his money,” he claimed. “… He was doing very badly financially, very badly. … He needed someone to be there for him.
Carter’s cause of death was deemed undetermined by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, pending toxicology results.
