A First Look at Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in the ‘Yellowstone’ Prequel ‘1923’

Just days before the highly anticipated “Yellowstone” Season 5 premiere, Paramount+ has released new photos of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in the prequel show “1923.”

A series of photos shared on Ford and Harrison’s Instagram read, “Meet Jacob and Cara Dutton.”

According to the studio, the show will “explore the early 20th century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression plagued the Mountain West and the Duttons who call it home.”

“Yellowstone” is currently directed by Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the nephew of characters Jacob and Cara.

Speaking to Vanity Fair about their characters, Mirren reveals that she and Ford are childless on the show, but very much in love.

“They’ve been married a long time. They haven’t had any kids, so they didn’t feel like kids were holding them together,” Mirren explained.

“An amazing partnership where you can be honest with each other, and your love and support for each other is total, but at the same time you are no longer blinded by love or lust,” is how she would describe Dutton’s relationship. “You are much more lucid about your relationship, but the relationship becomes all the stronger for this very reason.”

Ford echoed his sentiments, saying his characters and Mirren’s are “totally connected to each other.”

“There are very few things that sustain them other than themselves and the hard work and investment they put into their future and their families. It’s a tough life, and it’s full of challenges not only physical but also moral,” Harrison said.

When developing her character, Mirren noted that she considers Cara to have emigrated to Montana from Ireland.

“One of the things I really wanted was for her to speak in an Irish accent, not an American accent. It always bothered me a bit with westerns that you have all these people talking with modern American accents when in fact a lot of them were fairly recent immigrants,” she said.

Mirren expanded saying: “The great Irish immigration to America, because of the potato famine, happened at the end of the 19th century. It absolutely works chronologically for Cara. She is now in the late 60s, we imagine. So she would have come, I think, as a young woman from Ireland. I think that’s one of the amazing things about America. The people who came, and who always happen, are people with enormous resilience and enormous courage and independence.

Ford’s character for his part is the brother of James and Claire Dutton.
