2022 Singapore Grand Prix FP2 report and highlights: Sainz leads Leclerc as Ferrari posts 1-2 in second practice | Formula 1®

Carlos Sainz topped the timesheets in Friday’s second practice session for the Singapore Grand Prix, edging out Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc around the floodlit Marina Bay Street circuit.

In what was the first representative session of the weekend on F1’s return to the City of Lion, with the sun setting and floodlights taking over, Sainz posted the FP2 benchmark by clocking a time of 1m 42.587s on the compound of soft tires.

Leclerc trailed his team-mate by just over two tenths despite missing around half of the 60-minute session as Ferrari carried out changes and checks on his car after an FP1 hour impacted by brake issues .

Max Verstappen’s run was also limited by set-up changes and a late run in soft shoes could only put him fourth – around three tenths of Sainz’s time – between the Mercedes cars.

George Russell was the Silver Arrow leader in third, with Lewis Hamilton fifth, although both had compromised soft tire runs – Russell lamenting a “horrible” lap after being stuck at Turn 13 and Hamilton encountering traffic.
